Yes to all the questions 😂😂 favourite pen is papermate flair. Have you tried these? They are felt tipsy and come in a huge variety of colours.

I have tried them and love them! I don’t use them often though.(They’re great for making large lists on large paper.)

i forgot about papermate flairs!! those really do have that marker feel! do they bleed through a normal piece of paper? i might have to try to snag one of those today...

Thin, printer paper has trouble. But notebooks are usually good!

OOoooooh Jenovia is going to make me spend my paycheck on pens! This was so fun to read. I have always been a skinny sharpie girl—my mom used them and they were the epitome of adult to me!—but I LOVE a marker-y felt tip pen too. My first job was in a stationery store called Box Paper Scissors, lol, I still have a mental image of the rainbow row of Le Pens we had at the register. I'm a single notebook girl (but very inspired by your vocab notebook!!) and addicted to Rollbahns, I use one as a catch all (planner, to do listing, journal, notes) and it has clear pockets in the back that I use to hoard sentimental garbage like postcards from restaurants and movie tickets. I love that you're back to composition notebooks! I like the idea of covering one with stickers and doodles...

Thank you so much for sharing your stationery loves!!! I had so much fun reading your comment.

They're all very affordable ($2-$3 each). I'm so glad you enjoyed it 💘 Love the skinny Sharpies! Box Paper Scissors is an amazing name, I busted out laughing reading that. The vocab notebook system works wonders! I highly recommend it. Rollbahns are so pretty! Def need to purchase one soon. Also, very much love sentimental garbage as well. I have so many receipts from dinners/brunches, tickets taped to my notebooks.

The composition reunion has been so fun. Lately, I've been obsessed with stickers so it's worked out perfectly.

I hope you write more about stationery, so fun to read! I admittedly use my notes app to write and keep track of things more than I'd like so it's such good inspiration to use the more fun, better-for-my-brain pen and paper too!

This essay was super visual for me!! I was imagining your mother’s love growing and expanding and how it’s encircling you now. And I can see lil Jenovia with her hard earned dollars ready to buy the coolest shit she could get hands on. Soooo dreamy ✨💗

I love that 🥹and I love that we’re pen pals IRL. It’s such a treat to be able to share the same love of stationery/letter writing I felt as a child with my adult self and my adult friends. 💌🤩 A GIFT!

What a delicious read, Jenovia. Thank you so much for sharing.

I have been on a journey with my chosen pens but my solid favourite for some time has been the uni-ball eye needle micro 0.5mm. She is smoooth and allows words to flow almost as fast as I think them (well no where near, but nearer). Notebooks...my main priority is that they have to open flat. And I like them to have a good surface area. A5 is a bit too small. Currently I've found that TK Maxx has a good one that serves me well. I need to stock up soon!

I can't even remember when the stationery love began...!

While my handwriting doesn’t change with my mood, it does change when I use black ink vs blue ink. I can’t explain it, it just does.

This was a very detailed and unique read, Jenovia. Thank you for sharing and putting the time into the details on your writing preferences.

I am a Muji pens/markers person, sadly, I don't live near one, so the first thing I do when going somewhere is check how far Muji is from the hotel. That's how much I love them.

That’s correct! At work we even have pen showdowns where we all bring our favorite pens and we let people try them out and it’s so fun seeing people getting really invested in selling the experience

I have my eye on the Pilot Precise! I struggle to write now so I need something that is smooth and glides easily.

Also didn't know you have a commonplace book! It's one of my favorite topics :)

I love my commonplace book. She’s so heavy she could be a weapon.

I do. Quotes that I deeply love. Only the most special. It’s a hardcover book with thick card stock paper (why it’s heavy).

This was amazing! The origin story of how you and writing met, and the subsequent infatuation with stationery, were both so endearing.

Reading about your specific preferences and the subtle nuances as to why, I was reminded of how much I love it when people are truly excited by something. That kind of passion is infectious. And while I don’t have as particular tastes with stationery — I could write a LONG essay on the particulars of the skateboards I like to ride. Hmm, in fact, I may have to do that… Thanks for the inspiration Jenovia! :)

I did not see the sharpie coming up number one for you !! I have tested quite a few pens and my ultimate everyday fav is the basic pilot g-2, 0.5 only. My favorite journaling & annotating pen though is the Staedtler triple plus fine liner. It’s so skinny and long and marker like with a tiny metal tip and comes in the best colors. It’s not excellent for cursive but scratch level is high 😃

Jenovia 🕸️'s avatar

Just ordered the Staedtler triple plus fine liner on your recommendation. Sounds like I would love it and I’ve never heard of it before! This is why I write posts like this 😍 The color selection is amazing. Bought a pack of 6 black to start out with. Thank you!

The Sharpie is my old faithful. It is water and fade-resistant so my journals from 24 years ago look like they were written just yesterday. An overall high performing pen that never disappoints or impedes my journaling. Very excited to try the Staedtler!

I have been toying with the idea of trying out a fountain pen. I find that I really struggle to find a pen I like, and it's so important to the writing process. I simply don't want to do it unless the pen is right. This has inspired me to give it a go. And then I'll have an excuse to buy a new notebook too!

Having a pen that you deeply enjoy is so important. Fountain pens are really fun even though they require regular maintenance. I love them. (They need to be cleaned and serviced, etc.) Please let me know what you decide on! I love hearing about other writers pen preferences. 💘
