Welcome to my Web 🕸️

My playground where I frolic between the agony and ecstasy of the human experience.
Life. Love. Creation. Grief. Loss. Wonder.
A dash of poetry.

A more intimate, personal view.

About me

Jenovia by artist Kyra Kendall

My name is Jenovia.
Yes, it is my real name on my birth certificate.
(I get asked often.)

I’m an Indigenous Mexican-Purépecha, Ojibwe, Scottish, French, German writer.
Culturally, I was raised Mexican and Indigenous.
I was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas.
Los Angeles, New York City, Dallas, Chicago, Austin, and Tunis, Tunisia have all been home.
New Orleans is my favorite city in the states.
London and Paris have my heart.
Scotland is my dream home destination.

I currently reside in NYC.

Grief and mourning have been a significant part of my life and my writing.

The name of my Substack is an ode to my mother. My middle name is Webb-which I received from her.
She was murdered by my father before he killed himself when I was 10 years old and it has impacted my life in ways that I am still reconciling to this day. Six months before my parents died, my brother died by suicide. I would then go on to endure the murder of two best friends and the death of my adopted father figure (aggressive form of cancer).

Life is beautiful and devastating, sometimes all at once.

My work is for the people who are brave enough to bear the weight of these two truths and are still willing to come out the other side in love with life.

Caught In My Web 🕸️ : a round up of things I am loving/using/contemplating. It is a fun series I do every other post to share the things that I’ve been into lately. Articles, current books I'm reading, art that moves me, movies, shows, products I love, and thoughts on life.

Some light, some heavy, but always fun and interesting.
