Buckle up for a beefcake post, I’m bussin’ it wide open for my paid subscribers today.

Below you’ll find pictures and descriptions of my favorite place in our home, my writing desk and altar.

I have always been fascinated by the way people design their workspaces, especially when their vocation is writing. I love the colors they paint the walls, or if they choose wallpaper instead, the art they hang, and even discovering which writing tools are their favorites. (I love TWSBI ECO-T fountain pens for everyday journal use, Le Pens for my daily planner, Sharpie 0.4mm Felt tip pens for my Commonplace and Vocab journal. Pilot Precise V7 RT has a special place in my heart for everything else.)

Are they minimalists or maximalists? Do they keep their area in pristine order, or do they work best in organized chaos?

I have some friends who have such defined taste that every inch of their workspace is dripping with their personality. Others like stark white spaces with minimal distraction.

Since I spend most of my free time at my writing desk and altar, I need them to feel good and look beautiful.

My writing desk is surrounded by stones, crystals, deities, talismans, Saints, Our Lady of Guadalupe, flowers, turtle shells, bugs, seashells, tarot cards, and more. Each piece on my writing desk and altar has deep meaning to me, my culture, my ancestors, and the kind of life I am creating in every moment of every day.

Please feel free to incorporate anything you read here into your own creative and spiritual practice. It is truly my pleasure to offer anything that could improve your life and deepen your happiness.

What Is An Altar?

There are different altars for different cultures, but most have similarities. An altar is a low-traffic, quiet space in your home that serves as a vessel for your spiritual and creative practice.

I’ve always believed that every creative act is spiritual, which is why I keep my altar in the same place as my writing desk.
